Shanghai Grand Theather at Shanghai's People Square or next to it...

Suzhou Creek in Shanghai

Morning walk through the roads less traveled in Shanghai.

Walk away from the main tourist areas and will find these alleys where many Chinese people live.

The new generation

This young lady was very happy when I offered to take her picture in front of the water fountain at People's Square.

Drinking tea at a tea school in Shanghai, a very classy and pleasant activity. The picture shows jasmine tea in the pot.

Night view of the Pudong district from The Bund

The signs bring home the term "looks Chinese to me." Not only the characters are a bit difficult to read but translations into "English" are not always the same. Try South Xi Zang Road. On my guide ma it is "Xizang Zhong Liu." I am not sure what it is in Chinese but after many questions and directions I found out that the English version of the street as posted on the street is "Tibit Road."
It is okay. Just have to make an adventure in asking for directions.

Shanghai at dusk

Somewhere along the route to Shanghai. A view from the train at dusk.

A view of some of the many beautiful buildings found in Beijing. So long Beijing.

Young couple walking at the Summer Palace. A unique place in time that welcomes young and not so young people. Made lots of friends there. This couple asked me to email them the pictures I took of them.

The Summer Palace in Beijing.

Just another day walking along the wall. A fellow from Singapore took the picture.

The Great Wall of China at Badaling

Hum, as posted on the Great Wall of China. Now, going up and down the wall is not an easy task, why would a person want to take a smoke along the way? Perhaps the walls might catch on fire?

At Bei Hai Park

The tender beauty of youth

Somewhere in Beijing at a music store. They were the music experts who introduced me to: Clementine a French singer who sings a lovely song called "Pina Colada." Of course had to get some local music flavour...Ivana with a sweet and melow voice...and a more up beat tempo of something in Chinese...

A local tea house. I can even smell the tea fragances.

The city of Beijing's "hutongs" or alleyways. Very active neighborhood streets.

The city of Shenzhen had an annual population growth of 15% from 1990 to 2000 making it one of the fastest growing cities. From a small village in the early 80s to an urban city with more than 10 million people in about 20 years. The outcome can be experienced while visiting the city. It is the "garden city" of China.
With a relatively young population the City is full of energy and hope for the future. Its government is concerned about its rapid population growth but it is agressively planning and developing its future infrastructure.

Shenzhen CBD, a very active and beautiful urban area

Vertical access for bicycles done in a very simple manner...with a little push the rider CAN get up the stairs.

Shenzhen's expressway is similar to an express parkway which is what i canosider to be the "ideal" design for highways within urban areas.

Shenzhen's monorail at the station in front of China Folk Cultural Village

Happy people participating in the annual challenge of the dragon boat races.

City of Shenzhen Urban Transportation Planning Center
It was a pleasure exchange transportation ideas with members of the Center. The City has a very nice transport system that benefits from multi modes (buses, subway, monorail, etc) and a faily well planned roadway system.
